DispatchHealth has acquired Professional Portable X-Ray
In-home medical care provider DispatchHealth has entered into the radiology arena through its acquisition of Professional Portable X-ray (PPX).

In addition to being the first radiology company acquired by DispatchHealth, PPX expands the former’s available service lines into mobile radiology and allows it to offer complete diagnostic X-Ray services to its patients in the comfort of their own homes.

“With 20% of our acute care visits currently requiring radiography and/or ultrasonography, PPX will significantly enhance our ability to reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and hospitalizations while improving clinical outcomes and decreasing burdensome costs for the overall healthcare system,” Shannon Werb, chief operating officer at DispatchHealth, told HCB News.

PPX’s mobile X-ray is operated by qualified, experienced technologists who transfer images directly to radiologists; they, in turn, report back results quickly. Helping this process is a workflow and management information system designed by PPX to help electronically onboard, assign, capture, and deliver results fast. In addition, the company offers ultrasound and EKG services and expects to expand these integrated offerings soon.

Its mobile X-ray services will be integrated with DispatchHealth’s other clinical service offerings, including Acute Care, Advanced Care and Extended Care. The availability of mobile imaging helps DispatchHealth continue to build the largest in-home care system and at the same time, helps PPX expand its service offerings across the country.

PPX operates in Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Its services with DispatchHealth will initially commence in the Phoenix, Arizona service area before starting up in other areas where DispatchHealth is present.

With demand growing for in-home services, the market is projected to exceed a market value of $293.6 billion by 2026, according to Werb, who says the acquisition will especially be helpful for seniors.

“PPX's compact portable X-ray units can be wheeled into just about any location and are ready to produce high-quality images for immediate evaluation in less than one minute. For seniors, offering care in the home eliminates the safety risks and complexities of transport to a hospital or clinic and removes the associated hospital-acquired infection risk,” said Werb.

PPX will retain its brand name following the acquisition.
