Reuniões do FDA sobre Mishaps do Radiotherapy
por Brendon Nafziger, DOTmed News Associate Editor | May 10, 2010
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will host a public meeting next month to find ways to prevent radiation therapy mishaps, the agency announced on Friday.
The meeting, Device Improvements to Reduce the Number of Under-Doses, Over-
Doses, and Misaligned Exposures From Therapeutic Radiation, will run June 9-10 at the Hilton Hotel in Gaithersburg, Md.
"The objective of this public meeting is to discuss steps that could be taken by manufacturers of linear accelerators, radiation therapy treatment planning systems, and radiation therapy simulators to help reduce misadministration and misaligned exposures," the FDA said in a statement printed in the federal register.
"FDA is seeking input on this topic and requests comments on a number of related questions."
The sometimes deadly consequences of medical errors during radiotherapy procedures came to wider public attention earlier this year thanks to a series of articles in the New York Times.
