Siemens Healthineers and Mayo Clinic have broadened their long-standing strategic collaboration, outlining new initiatives focused on neurodegenerative disease, prostate cancer and metastatic liver tumors.

The expanded agreement centers on integrating advanced imaging systems, artificial intelligence and minimally invasive technologies into routine clinical care.

The Erlangen, Germany-based imaging and diagnostics company and the Rochester, Minnesota-based health system said the collaboration will initially target several clinical areas. In neurodegenerative disease, the organizations plan to develop and clinically translate AI-enabled MR protocols aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy and longitudinal monitoring.

The partners will also explore digital twin technology to redesign surgical care pathways. The effort is intended to model and optimize patient flow and perioperative processes, with an emphasis on operational efficiency and patient experience.

In prostate cancer, the collaboration will examine how AI tools could reduce the need for biopsies and support the integration of advanced imaging into minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. For metastatic liver disease, the organizations plan to advance image-guided interventional suites designed to improve detection and treatment precision.

Two innovation centers are also part of the agreement. One will focus on ultrahigh-field MR, with the goal of accelerating clinical adoption of high-resolution imaging for complex neurological conditions. The other will support clinical integration of whole-body PET/CT and PET/MR, including applications in theranostics and combined anatomical and metabolic imaging for cancer care planning.

“Our goal is to make care more precise, less invasive, and more responsive to each patient’s needs,” said Dr. Eric Williamson, professor and chair, diagnostic radiology, Mayo Clinic. “By expanding our collaboration, we can bring advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, and innovative treatment approaches directly into everyday clinical care, potentially helping patients receive earlier diagnoses, more personalized treatment plans, and better outcomes.”

John Kowal, president and head of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers, said, “Improving the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disease and cancer is core to our purpose as a company. Our collaboration with Mayo Clinic creates significant opportunities to help extend the quantity and quality of patients’ lives.”
