The University of South Florida’s Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation has installed GE HealthCare’s Allia Moveo image-guided therapy system, becoming the first site in Florida and the third globally to deploy the platform.

The addition extends an existing collaboration among USF Health, Tampa General Hospital and the Chicago-based medical technology company focused on clinical innovation and training.

CAMLS, part of the Tampa Medical & Research District and one of the largest stand-alone healthcare simulation centers in the world, will integrate the system into its education programs for students, faculty and practicing clinicians. According to the organizations, it is the first simulation center to incorporate the technology into a training environment designed to mirror hybrid operating rooms.

“Gaining access to the latest surgical imaging and guidance technologies further ensures that innovation in education keeps pace with innovation in care,” said Dr. Haru Okuda, executive director of CAMLS and associate vice president of interprofessional education and practice with USF Health. “Together, we’re creating a training ecosystem that strengthens clinical confidence and, ultimately, shapes a future where every patient benefits from the most advanced surgical techniques available.”

Allia Moveo is designed for minimally invasive and endovascular procedures. The system includes a compact, cable-free C-arm and a lateral wide-bore configuration that supports cone beam CT imaging. GE HealthCare says the design is intended to accommodate a broader range of patient anatomies and allow imaging with patients’ arms down. The platform also incorporates workflow software intended to streamline procedures in hybrid OR settings.

John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, said the collaboration will support the district’s efforts to expand advanced care and training capacity in the region.

A second Allia Moveo system is scheduled for installation at Tampa General later this year for clinical use in a hybrid operating room, further aligning the academic and clinical arms of the partnership.
