Sutter Health and GE HealthCare have entered a seven-year strategic partnership to enhance access to advanced diagnostic imaging services across California.
GE HealthCare called the agreement one of its largest enterprise strategic partnerships to date.
According to Bloomberg, the deal is worth approximately $1 billion.
The Northern California-based health system, which serves more than 3.5 million patients annually across 300 facilities, estimates the partnership could allow it to serve tens of thousands more patients each year.
“This strategic partnership is rooted in our commitment to providing innovative, high-caliber care to our 3.5 million patients,” said Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Sutter Health. “This collaboration ensures that no matter where patients enter the Sutter Health system, they’ll receive seamless and coordinated care.”
A key focus of the alliance is implementing advanced imaging technologies, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, MR, X-ray, and ultrasound, across Sutter Health's facilities. The agreement also calls for integrating GE HealthCare’s digital solutions, such as deep learning-powered tools like AIR Recon DL for enhanced MR imaging.
The collaboration also supports Sutter’s plans to expand its service lines, including heart and vascular care, cancer care, and neurosciences. The health system recently announced plans for a new cancer center in California’s Central Valley and two flagship specialty care campuses in Silicon Valley.
GE HealthCare will also work with Sutter to address staffing challenges through workforce development programs. This includes ongoing training for clinicians and collaboration with schools to build a pipeline of radiologic technologists and other healthcare professionals reflective of the diverse communities Sutter serves.
“This Care Alliance is a customized, clinician-focused approach aligned with our shared goals,” said Catherine Estrampes, U.S. and Canada president and CEO at GE HealthCare. “We look forward to supporting Sutter Health physicians and clinicians in delivering enhanced patient outcomes.”
