Burjeel Medical City and Northwell Health have opened the Neuroscience Institute in Abu Dhabi.
Northwell Health is expanding the reach of its Neurology Service line, a regional and international program that provides neurological care to patients worldwide, with the formation of the Neuroscience Institute in Abu Dhabi via a collaboration with Burjeel Holdings, whose flagship hospital Burjeel Medical City (BMC) is a specialist in many facets of neurology.
The Neuroscience Institute will be located at BMC, treating adults and children for autoimmune brain disorders, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and movement disorders, pediatric neurology, and multiple sclerosis, and will have an international medical team certified by global medical boards. The 1.2 million-square-foot hospital has over 400 beds, more than 50 specialties, and employs Western board-certified physicians.

It is a quaternary care facility specializing in hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Quaternary care is an extension of tertiary care but involves more specialized and highly unusual care that is only available in a limited number of facilities worldwide.
Designed to increase the amount of oxygen the blood carries, BMC staff utilize hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat patients who have strokes, traumatic brain injuries, anoxic brain injuries from nearly drowning, acute sensorineural deafness, and chronic multiple sclerosis.
It is a subspecialist in pediatric neurology care
The hospital offers a Level IV PICU, a Level III NICU, and Pediatric ECMO, and is one of the few healthcare facilities in the United Arab Emirates with a specialized NICU ambulance. It also is the only one that provides ECMO services for in-patient and ambulatory care.
Its diagnostic imaging solutions include 1.5T intraoperative iMR, 1.5T and 3T MR, and 256- and 128-slice CT, PET-CT, SPECT-CT scanners. It also specializes in neurosurgery, including brain tumor, spinal, epileptic, vascular and endovascular, and pediatric surgeries, as well as functional neurosurgery.
