Cleveland Clinic will provide teleradiology services to Children's Hospital New Orleans.
Cleveland Clinic is making radiology services at Children’s Hospital New Orleans 24/7 with its telemedicine services, as part of a new affiliation between them.

A team of 16 pediatric and neuroradiologists employed by the Ohio healthcare system will supplement the work of Children’s Hospital New Orleans pediatric radiology team, providing families in Louisiana and the Gulf South with access to top pediatric imaging expertise during all hours of the day.

All pediatric radiologists at Cleveland Clinic are board-certified and have advanced subspecialty training in pediatrics.

“This means families will know their child’s imaging is read by pediatric experts at all Children’s Hospital New Orleans locations at any time of day, instead of having to rely on adult radiologists or waiting until the next day for a study to be read by a pediatric expert, as is the case at other pediatric facilities in our community,” said Jonathan Brouk, chief operating officer and chief strategy officer for Children’s Hospital New Orleans, in a statement.

The team at Cleveland Clinic will help develop exam protocols, conduct physician consultations, and make accurate diagnoses fast through its eRadiology platform.

The technology facilitates teleradiology for hospitals, imaging centers and physicians group practices through high-speed, secure internet connections, instant messaging and advanced RIS and PACS systems. It also provides referring physicians with electronic access to their patient’s images and reports through a secure web viewer.

Cleveland Clinic will also add four specialists for reading cardiac MR scans, expanding Children’s New Orleans’ cardiac imaging services. Additionally, the new affiliation will be used to assess scans from Children’s Hospital’s pediatric trauma program, the only one in the region. It recently started accepting trauma patients directly from the scene of accidents and is applying for accreditation from the American College of Surgeons.

“From the acquisition of images to the report results, we strive to deliver an uncompromising level of quality to each and every child and family we serve, along with the entire care team,” said Dr. Michael Aquino, medical director of overnight pediatric radiology at Cleveland Clinic.

Children’s Hospital New Orleans opened its imaging center in April 2020 as part of a $300 million campus expansion at the hospital.
