BayCare Health System has acquired a 36-acre office parcel adjacent to its St. Joseph’s hospitals in Tampa, Florida, increasing its property holdings in the area by more than 75%.
The acquisition, which includes three buildings and two parking garages within Tampa Bay Park, will provide space for future expansion and consolidation of services.
The Clearwater, Florida-based health system plans to use the property to relocate leased offices, expand its BayCare Medical Group, and establish a headquarters for its growing graduate medical education (GME) and research programs.
“As West Central Florida grows, so must BayCare to continue our mission to improve our communities’ health,” said BayCare president and CEO Stephanie Conners. “The opportunity to buy such a large piece of property contiguous to one of our largest medical campuses provides us the opportunity to expand important specialty services for our patients and communities.”
In the near term, BayCare is working with tenants in the acquired buildings to support existing lease agreements. Long-term plans include integrating the new property with St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital through a proposed vehicular bridge.
BayCare has already announced plans to build a new facility for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital by 2030. Additionally, its GME program is set to expand to 650 residents by 2029, with 283 residents expected to be in training across 18 programs by mid-2025.
Kimberly Guy, BayCare’s chief operating officer, emphasized the impact of the expansion. “To have this many centrally located medical resources together in a single campus will deepen our region’s access to BayCare’s high-quality, compassionate care. It will also create an environment that attracts the brightest medical professionals to care for our patients.”
The newly acquired buildings — LakePointe One, LakePointe Two, and Spectrum — add 615,656 square feet of office space and 2,501 parking spaces to BayCare’s Tampa footprint.
