Broward Health and Nicklaus Children's Health System have formalized an affiliation agreement that will fully integrate pediatric services at Broward Health’s Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs locations with Nicklaus Children's expertise in pediatric subspecialties by late 2025.
The collaboration seeks to address gaps in local pediatric care, reducing the need for families to leave Broward County for specialized treatment. Currently, 16% of pediatric patients in the region must travel for advanced care.
“Broward Health has been making great strides in expanding pediatric specialty care, and today’s approval to move into an affiliation with Nicklaus Children’s Health System is one more win for our community,” said Shane Strum, president and CEO of Broward Health.
Matthew A. Love, president and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System, emphasized the organization's commitment to bringing its renowned expertise closer to families in Broward County. “Through our affiliation with Broward Health, we will be able to increase access to high-quality care in the region while keeping kids close to home for decades to come,” Love said.
Under the agreement, Nicklaus Children's will manage pediatric services at Broward Health locations, offering specialties such as neurology, cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics. Both organizations have pledged a smooth transition for patients, families, and staff as services expand.
Chris Pernicano, chair of Broward Health’s board of commissioners, described the partnership as a critical step in meeting the region's growing healthcare needs. “By integrating Nicklaus Children’s extensive expertise and resources into Broward Health, we will strengthen our pediatric services, ensuring that local families have access to the best care possible, right here in Broward County,” he said.
