After months of speculation, Catholic Medical Center (CMC), a 330-bed regional health system in Manchester, New Hampshire, is poised to join HCA Healthcare.

Since the signing of the Letter of Intent last fall, leadership teams from CMC and HCA Healthcare, in partnership with the Diocese of Manchester, have sought to determine if the organizations could come to a final agreement in which CMC would join HCA Healthcare.

“This agreement is the result of months of due diligence, thoughtful negotiations between our organizations and discussion with the local community about how we can best serve them,” said Alex Walker, CMC’s president and CEO. “In addition to embracing our Catholic mission, HCA is committed to healthcare excellence, community service and investing in our people and facilities. With three hospitals and four decades of providing healthcare services to the state, we are confident HCA will continue CMC’s mission of offering health, healing and hope to the Manchester community for decades to come.”

The 330-licensed-bed hospital was formed in 1974 through a merger between Sacred Heart Hospital and Notre Dame Hospital, which were formed in 1892 and 1894, respectively. Despite becoming a for-profit, CMC will retain its Catholic identity and continue to provide care under the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs).

HCA currently operates three hospitals in New Hampshire: Parkland Medical Center in Derry, Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester. In total, the health system runs over 180 hospitals and more than 2,300 other medical facilities in the U.S. and U.K.
