Shimadzu Medical Systems USA (SMS), a medical division of Shimadzu Corporation Japan subsidiary Shimadzu Precision Instruments has expanded the reach of its U.S. healthcare business with the acquisition of California X-ray Imaging Services (CIS).
Located in Vacaville, CIS is a distributor that has been supplying MR, CT, mammography, X-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, cardiology, and angiography medical imaging solutions to hospitals and diagnostic imaging, outpatient, and orthopedic centers in Northern California and Nevada since 1992. In addition to SMS, it installs solutions made by Fujifilm, NIR Medical, Hitachi, Konica Minolta, Canon, Del Medical, Eastern Diagnostic Imaging, Skanray, MedCurrent, TigerView, and Vieworks. It also provides maintenance and repair services.
SMS, which has its U.S. headquarters in Long Beach, California, says adding CIS will establish standardized high-quality service across the West Coast.
"This acquisition is expected to enhance our ability to build further customer relationships and provide high-quality service support in the region and future growth of SMS,” said Tom Kloetzly, SMS vice president of national sales and marketing, in a statement.
Gary Boudreaux, president of CIS, said the deal will “facilitate growth in Northern California and Nevada as we continue to exceed our customers' expectations."
Shimadzu was founded in 1875 in Kyoto. It designs angiography, fluoroscopy, mobile X-ray and C-arm, radiography, and PET imaging solutions, among other imaging modalities.
Back in October, the company
installed the first U.S.-based Trinias SCORE Opera C12 ceiling-mounted cutting-edge angiography system at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in South Carolina.
Financial details on the CIS acquisition were not disclosed.
