ALBUQUERQUE -- The ASRT House of Delegates voted on 39 resolutions and adopted 30 during its June 3-4 meeting in Albuquerque, N.M. The House of Delegates sets policy for the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and establishes direction for the radiologic science profession.

Delegates approved three position statements on educational levels, advocating the associate degree as the entry level for radiographers, the baccalaureate degree as the entry level for radiation therapists, and the baccalaureate degree as the professional level of radiologic science education. Position statements reflect the official beliefs and opinions of the ASRT.

Delegates also voted to adopt revisions to the Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. The document guides R.T. practice, defines the R.T.'s role and sets the criteria used to judge performance. The most significant change was the addition of a scope of practice for each discipline and specialty of radiologic technology. The scope of practice outlines the actions generally considered to be within the technologist's role, thus offering the protection of reasonable boundaries. The Practice Standards are available on the ASRT Web site at www.asrt.org.
