The hospital's third biggest estate gift.
Mayo Clinic said Wednesday it received a $43 million bequest from an Indiana woman who had long been a patient.

The donation, from the late Juanita Kious Waugh of Brookston, Ind., is the third largest estate gift in the history of the Rochester, Minn.-based non-profit hospital.

The money will be used to fund educational programs in Mayo's Minnesota, Jacksonville, Fla. and Phoenix, Ariz. campuses, the hospital said.

"Ms. Waugh's legacy will live on through her generosity to Mayo Clinic. Students, educators, clinicians and the public will benefit from this extraordinary gift," Mayo Clinic's CEO and president Dr. John Noseworthy said in a statement.

Waugh, who died the day before her 88th birthday, managed a farming business, and made the donation in the name of her parents, Lloyd Augustus Waugh and Laura Blanche Kious Waugh, according to the hospital. The family had been patients at Mayo Clinic for more than 60 years, the hospital said.
