Samsung Medison and Bracco Imaging will research and develop new protocols for high-frequency and super-resolution imaging as part of a new area they are exploring around the use of diagnostic ultrasound devices and contrast agents.

The two announced their collaboration earlier this month at the European Congress of Radiology 2024 in Vienna, as part of a Memorandum of Understanding agreement they signed. Both will research how to expand the use of ultrasound contrast agents and increase image resolution in different settings and specialties to improve workflow and provide patients with more medical imaging options for their needs.

As part of this initiative, Bracco Imaging will integrate its quantitative diagnostic analysis software with Samsung Medison’s diagnostic ultrasound equipment to improve image reporting and make the process more convenient for medical staff.

"Through this MoU agreement with Bracco and global collaboration, we will strengthen our capability in the diagnostic ultrasound field, and create an opportunity to enter a future ultrasound treatment field," says Yongkwan Kim, CEO of Samsung Medison, in a statement.

The two will also coordinate global marketing activities, healthcare provider education, joint participation in strategic events, and research potential combinations of ultrasound-targeted, contrast-enhanced drug delivery technologies with pharmaceutical agents.

Based in Milan, Bracco Imaging is the developer of gadolinium-based agents Multihance and Prohance for central nervous system brain lesions, and Vueway for the central nervous system and parts of the body, including the head, neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, and musculoskeletal system. Its quantitative diagnostic analysis software VueBox quantifies tissue perfusion for general imaging in dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound.

Samsung Medison, in South Korea, designs a range of ultrasound solutions for general imaging, women’s health, cardiovascular, pediatrics, point-of-care, and veterinary needs. At ECR, it unveiled new ultrasound techniques, including Live BreastAssist, a new AI feature for real-time lesion detection in the breast, and NerveTrack, a real-time nerve tracking feature.
