Viz.ai has obtained 510(k) clearance for its algorithm, Viz ICH Plus, designed to identify, label, and quantify the volume of segmentable brain structures on non-contrast CT scans to diagnose suspected cases of stroke-causing intracerebral hemorrhages.

The software analyzes intracranial hyperdensities, lateral ventricles, and midline shifts to calculate brain bleed volume, and uses this information to help clinicians determine and apply the best treatment to a patient in a timely fashion.

"The ability and mobility to obtain accurate and quantifiable measurements of intracerebral hemorrhages through Viz ICH Plus significantly enhances our decision-making process,” said Dr. Peter Kan, professor, and chair of the department of neurosurgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, in a statement.

Viz ICH Plus is available on the company’s AI-powered Viz.ai One enterprise platform, which is used by more than 1,500 providers in the U.S. and made up of multiple care suites, from neuro to trauma, to help multidisciplinary care teams coordinate care and radiology workflow across mobile and desktop systems. Along with Viz ICH, the solution makes up Viz Hemorrhage, which is 38 seconds faster than standard care, alerts providers in less than 30 seconds, and reduces lengths of stay by 35%.

In addition to stroke risks, the company, over the last year, has concentrated largely on the application of its platform in vascular and cardiac care. Last March, it obtained 510(k) clearance for its detection algorithm for abdominal aortic aneurysms, Viz AAA, to tip clinicians to imminent risks of ruptures from CT angiography scans.

It also expanded into outpatient ambulatory centers to accelerate clinical trial recruitment for heart failure using its solution, Viz RECRUIT, to aid with patient identification for these trials.
