The FDA has given GE HealthCare clearance for its image-guided therapy platform, Allia IGS Pulse, which comes equipped with a new imaging chain designed to optimize dose and image quality for clear views of complex cardiac anatomy during interventional procedures.

Having been tested in pilots at Clinique Pasteur – Toulouse in France since the beginning of the year, the solution is the first to feature a monopolar X-ray tube for capturing images in interventional procedures, and is designed to automate image quality and dose regardless of patient size and allow clinicians to view coronary arteries at new angles.

Here is a breakdown of four of its core components:

• Monopolar X-ray tube: Allows for quieter than normal conversation to optimize ORs and has a small footprint for viewing coronary artery anatomy at steeper angles, including with 30-cm detector configurations.


• Optimized image quality for bariatric patients: Can produce quality scans of large and bariatric patients with a body mass index of more than 30 due to its reduced pulse width and unmatched X-ray peak power, which together decrease motion blur for better visualization of moving elements such as vessels and devices.


• AutoRight PLUS: An update to GE HealthCare’s AutoRight automation platform that optimizes seven parameters in real-time, including Focal Spot Shape, removing the need to make manual adjustments during procedures and allowing clinicians to concentrate on the procedure and treatment.


• MyIQ: The most up-to-date version enables clinicians to choose their favorite image look from four different image styles with one click, tailoring care without increasing dose.

“As an operator of the Allia IGS Pulse system, I felt a significant and real improvement in the imaging quality, as well as a significant reduction of this noise in my daily procedures, which gave me great confidence and comfort in the operating room. The system is also quite adaptable and versatile to all of my daily situations and procedures — from percutaneous coronary interventions to other complex and structural ones,” said Dr. Nicolas Dumonteil, an interventional cardiologist at Clinique Pasteur – Toulouse, in a statement.

Allia IGS Pulse also provides a personalized workspace to give clinicians better access to user interface functions and displays when working, and comes with a suite of tools to support dose efficiency, reduction, and awareness.

“By developing new features to further evolve our core platform, we’re helping to reduce complexity and improve the operating environment so that clinicians can have a personalized workspace that better enables them to keep their focus where it belongs — on their patients,” said Arnaud Marie, general manager of interventional for GE HealthCare, in a statement.

The company will debut the solution at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics 2023 conference (TCT), which will take place from October 24-26 in San Francisco.
