Under a new partnership with Siemens Healthineers, software provider Nano4Imaging will develop and test its TRACKR software, an AI-based application that provides real-time navigation for the use of interventional devices in MR scans during endovascular procedures.

The two signed a letter of intent, in which Nano4Imaging will develop and deploy the technology onto Siemens Healthineers’ MAGNETOM MR systems. The application will connect with the scanners through Access-i, a Siemens Healthineers CE-labeled software interface available on MAGNETOM Sola and Vida, for real-time visualization of catheter, balloon, and guide wire placement.

Additionally, the interface enables the software to guide catheters designed by other vendors and equipped with Nano4Imaging MagnaFy markers inside the MAGNETOM scanners, including its 0.55T scanner MAGNETOM Free.Max. These markers can be applied to any device, including for brachytherapy, radioembolization, and angioplasty. Their size can be customized based on application and field strength.

“This collaboration with Siemens Healthineers will advance the application of our TRACKR platform for the development of new endovascular treatment modalities, especially in partnership with many device OEMs, for the benefit of many patients and hospital professionals,” said Rudolf Schulze Vohren, CEO of Nano4Imaging, in a statement.

The TRACKR software will use deep-learning algorithms to detect marker profiles and make future predictions in real time. Preclinical studies in pig models showed a detection rate of 88.6% with 1.1% false positives. Nano4Imaging will first apply it to its own guidewire (SmartWire).

According to the agreement, current interventional cardiac MR sites with MAGNETOM systems can begin using the TRACKR software in 2024 and will provide input when it first becomes available to customize the prototype software to meet exact clinical needs and performance.

Nano4Imaging will use TRACKR in collaboration with European and U.S. hospitals and global medical device companies to develop new therapies in oncology and vascular disease.

The company is based in Düsseldorf, Germany, and has a subsidiary in Dublin, Ohio. It previously developed the first CE- and FDA-approved guide wire, EmeryGlide, for safe and conspicuous catheterization in MR scanners.
