Medline has opened a new $72 million warehouse that will be the largest medical distribution center in Louisiana, processing more than $200 million worth of orders annually.
Located in Hammond, the 650,000-square-foot, high-tech facility will distribute thousands of products and devices across the care continuum to hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, physicians offices, nursing homes and hospices,
reported The Daily Star.
“We will have steady growth for the next four to five years,” Nick Latino, director of Medline operations, told the local news outlet at a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 31.
The facility currently has 100 employees but expects to add 200 more once fully operational; and its Medline trucks will normally commute between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. for product delivery.
The investment is one of several upgrades the company has made to its distribution system as part of its $2 billion Healthcare Resilience Initiative, a national, multiyear capital expenditure plan to build new centers and add manufacturing capabilities and information technology facilities.
Last year, the company
opened a $125 million warehouse in Grayslake, Illinois. The 1.4 million-square-foot LEED-certified facility is the largest medical-grade distribution center in the U.S.
Medline will spend around $300,000 annually with local vendors for maintenance, upkeep and operations support at the Hammond facility. Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto says that he hopes the new facility will bring more job opportunities to local young people, as well as increase sales tax revenue as employees move into the area.
Based in Northfield, Illinois, Medline has over 34,000 employees worldwide and works with providers in over 125 countries and territories. It runs over 50 distribution centers and 20-plus manufacturing facilities across North America, distributing 300,000 individual medical products, including over 65,000 it designed.
