FUJIFILM VisualSonics has combined its ultrasound system with PIUR Imaging's hardware and software for faster, 3D imaging
FUJIFILM VisualSonics has added new hardware and software designed by PIUR Imaging to its ultrahigh frequency ultrasound imaging systems for faster, 3D imaging.
A European manufacturer in tomographic ultrasound imaging, PIUR Imaging is the developer of PIUR tUS Infinity, a wireless add-on solution that consists of a sensor-based tracking unit, a video transmission box and software for image analysis and 3D rendering.
Adding it to the FUJIFILM VisualSonics Vevo MD system, is expected to help clinicians better evaluate anomalies in several areas, including dermatology, neurology, vascular and MSK. "The FUJIFILM VisualSonics’ Vevo MD, coupled with PIUR IMAGING’s tUS Infinity platform, offers researchers and clinicians the ability to visualize and measure ultrasound volumes in 3D. We are confident that our partnership with PIUR IMAGING will enable users to add a new dimension in visualizing pathological tissue in a variety of clinical applications,” said Greg Nesbitt, vice president of global high frequency at FUJIFILM VisualSonics, in a statement.

The Vevo MD is equipped with new UHF Series transducers of up to 70 MHz and a user-friendly, customizable touch screen interface that reduces exam times. It offers a range of applications, including power doppler, pulsed-wave doppler, wireless connectivity, new clinical indications, new measurements, and workflow enhancements.
The Infinity sensor is clipped onto a FUJIFILM VisualSonics Vevo MD ultrasound transducer and seamlessly runs the Infinity software on the system’s workstation. It collects information from the video box and sensor and uses AI-based reconstruction algorithms to produce 3D tomographic ultrasound volumes. It also uses smart analysis tools to extract diagnostic information.
In combining 3D imaging and clinical UHF ultrasound, users can scan fast and easy 3D images of anatomies such as vessels, nerves and lymphatics. They can also use automatic segmentation to speed up evaluations and more easily calculate length, area and volume. Additionally, access to 3D imaging eliminates having to refer patients outside the ultrasound lab.
“The combination of FUJIFILM VisualSonics and PIUR IMAGING technologies creates the industry’s first handheld, UHF, 3D ultrasound imaging technology,” said Robert Bauer, CTO of PIUR IMAGING, in a statement. “Together, the combined technologies are designed to streamline clinicians’ and researchers’ workflow by separating ultrasound acquisition from image analysis.”
The PIUR tUS Infinity System can be purchased today in Europe as an add-on to the FUJIFILM VisualSonics Vevo MD UHF ultrasound system.
It is pending FDA (510)-k clearance and Canadian clearance and is not yet available in the U.S. or Canada.
