'Suspicious' fire destroys Ohio Nurses Association headquarters

A fire that broke out last weekend at the Ohio Nurses Association headquarters has completely destroyed the building, with damages estimated to be more than $1 million.
The fire began Sunday at around 1:30 a.m. at the ONA building, located at 3760 Ridge Mill Drive in Columbus. While no one was in the building at the time and no injuries were reported, the fire has been deemed “suspicious” by fire arson investigators who have launched an investigation into the cause, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
“We were regrettably informed of a fire at the ONA Headquarters this morning. The fire, which is suspected to have happened in the early morning hours, has resulted in a total loss and the cause is not yet known. Though this is a disaster, we are thankful no one was hurt,” said ONA president Robert Weitzel in a statement.
Opened in 1989, the two-story, 7,128-square-foot office building has a total assessed value of $825,000 and is located on 1.2 acres of land that is valued at $447,600. The building is worth $377,400, according to Franklin County Auditor's office records.
While some reports on the fire said that a medical practice operated out of the building, fire battalion chief Steve Martin dismissed this as not true.
The ONA has represented nurses in the state since 1904 and serves 180,000 nurses today. It will update members and staff as the situation and investigation develop.
