A recent issue of The Lancet Oncology reported that improving the quality of a pre-operative ultrasound sonogram could decrease unneeded major surgeries in suspected ovarian cancer cases. Ultrasound is used to assess tumors and the diagnostic accuracy of the study depends on operator skill, the British medical journal reported.
Gynecological ultrasound performed by experts is 95 % accurate but that rate is lower in less experienced technologists.
