Washington, D.C. – The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA), the leading organization and collective voice of medical imaging and radiopharmaceutical manufacturers, innovators, and product developers, commended Congress for including a significant reduction in anticipated Medicare provider payment cuts due to evaluation and management (E/M) coding changes in the year-end Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021.
The bill reduces the Medicare payment cuts to radiologists and other specialists, due to E/M changes, by more than half – from 10 percent to approximately 4 percent for 2021 – with further, phased-in adjustments thereafter. This legislative mitigation offers a reprieve from the disastrous cuts that were slated to start January 1.
“Congress’ efforts to reduce the Medicare payment cuts due to E/M code changes is a good start,” said Patrick Hope, Executive Director, MITA. “We now have the opportunity to work with our provider partners and bipartisan congressional champions to address these cuts with President-elect Biden’s incoming Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) team.”
