From the August 2018 issue of HealthCare Business News magazine
When considering the maintenance plan for a technology, costs should be factored in over the life of the equipment. For example, a $1 million CT scanner might have an annual service cost of $120,000. This translates to $480,000 over the 5-year life of the system (assuming a 1-year warranty), or almost half the capital cost of the system. With multiyear contracts becoming common, planning for service should start as early as the capital budget process. This will allow hospitals to think ahead and fine-tune their business plans to provide high-quality healthcare while staying financially viable.
