The Johnson & Johnson Institute is
offering a platform that connects
surgeons with experts in
their field to improve their skills
The Johnson & Johnson Institute can now connect hospitals and surgeons from a range of specialties with experts in their fields, furthering development of their technical skills in robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgery, through the use of its new offering, C-SATS.

Powered by data capture, analytics and AI, the personalized performance management platform enables surgeons to upload videos and receive confidential feedback from experts and trained reviewers on how to enhance their skills to improve outcomes and reduce costs.

"It's all about personalized skills assessment – enabling surgeons to upload surgical videos 24/7 for assessment by expert surgeons and trained reviewers," Sandra Humbles, vice president of global education solutions at Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices, told HCB News. "Within hours, reviewers return quantitative scores, qualitative feedback and specific recommendations for performance improvement. It's like having your own digital coach."

Using simulation and virtual reality, the platform offers cognitive procedural training for surgeons, as well as an online library of materials based on safe and efficacious use of Johnson & Johnson Institute’s products.

It also uses validated tools to track and keep tabs on skill level over time, and correlates technical skills to evaluate subsequent improvements in outcomes, including blood loss, complication rates, and 30-day readmissions.

"C-SATS will help us expand the value we provide to customers and patients beyond our traditional learning and educational offerings," said Humbles. "It will change how surgeons learn by giving them the opportunity to anonymously receive input on actual cases, to improve their technical skills with the goal of reducing costs and improving outcomes – all of which benefit patients, surgeons and health systems."

C-SATS is currently available for sale in the U.S. and will be integrated into the Johnson & Johnson Institute's on-site and online digital learning and education offerings.

Offerings will be supported by a fully integrated and digitally-enabled educational experience for all healthcare professionals that will be delivered sometime this year.
