CHICAGO — Attendees at this year’s Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual conference saw the launch of two new products for ultrasound and orthopedics by ContextVision.

The Swedish company introduced VolarView, an image enhancement software for handheld ultrasound devices, and the GOPView XR2Plus Orthopedic package, a new GOP product for addressing specific needs in orthopedic imaging.

“The GOP technology was developed many years ago, and it has proven to be very stable and robust,” Anita Tollstadius, CEO and president of ContextVision, told HCB News. “That’s why we have been able to develop different products based on this technology."

VolarView is designed as a tool for the point-of-care market, enabling efficient implementation on smart phone and tablet-based systems and specially designed ultrasound devices. Image enhancement can be performed on iOS, Windows and Android, with VolarView enabling high image quality for people who may be less experienced in using ultrasound for point of care.

“I think it will facilitate the use of point of care a lot, because for users who are not so used to looking at an ultrasound image, since it’s very blurry and very difficult to understand, it’s even more important to have a clearer image to see what they’re actually seeing,” Tollstadius said. “I think that’s going to be very valuable to the diagnosis.”

The GOPView XR2Plus Orthopedic package provides image enhancements to meet a wide range of preferences in X-ray. These preferences include the flexibility to view images with a computed radiography or wide bone-like look, greater avoidance of artifacts around implants, and enhanced image quality with low dose.

The solution, which can also show more soft tissue around bones, is an upgrade of the existing GOP XR2Plus with the GOP technology combined with added algorithms.

“Now, with this extended flexibility and use of the algorithms, you can actually achieve both the good part of the CR imaging and the good parts of the digital flat panel imaging in a combination which we haven’t been able to do before," says Ann-Sofi Hoff, marketing manager and product portfolio manager of ContextVision.

The products are available for sale among ContextVision's customer base of OEMs.
