Siemens Healthineers will provide advanced imaging technology to Houston Methodist Hospital, the flagship academic hospital of the Texas Medical Center, and its community hospital facilities, as part of a seven-year agreement.

Staff at Houston Methodist Research Institute will soon have access to new forms of angiography, MR imaging, CT, molecular imaging, imaging IT and ultrasound technology. Siemens will also be conducting research alongside the institute and become the primary provider of diagnostic imaging equipment to all Houston Methodist campuses.

“Houston Methodist and Siemens share an intense focus on bringing new therapies to the bedside, and both have leading programs to develop minimally-invasive therapies that use imaging guidance … Newer developments in medical devices require faster and more accurate imaging guidance, so Siemens and Houston Methodist will work together to create these advances for our patients,” Dr. H. Dirk Sostman, the MD Anderson Foundation Distinguished Chair of Molecular Imaging at Houston Methodist, told HCB News.
The technological innovations also consist of two interventional suites that include a hybrid CT/angiography suite as well as the employment of onsite service engineers, a service manager and onsite research scientists as part of a coverage model devised by Siemens.

Engineers from Siemens will work alongside researchers from the Texas Medical Center on innovations and enhancements in imaging technology. It also will provide the institute with a 7T MR to study for research purposes only.

The new technology and work with Siemens will speed up the transition between studying treatments in the lab and administering them to patients at Houston Methodist.

“The collaboration with Siemens will make new technologies available to patients worldwide, and patients at HM will be among the first to have access to more advanced imaging and new types of precision surgery,” said Sostman.

No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.
