29 February 2016 – Technology specialist Tracerco has been awarded a contract for the supply of its Observa™ radiation area monitoring system to a leading UK NHS Hospital. The latest ground breaking innovation is designed to aid Nuclear Medicine working practices, providing early warning of dose rates, for both patients and staff. The system will be deployed in early 2016 and will provide critical radiation safety information to the Nuclear Medicine team.
The order was received through Tracerco's distributor; LabLogic, who are a UK based supplier of equipment to the Life Science, PET/Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Safety sector,
Observa™ combines several unique technological features, including a wall-mounted alarm unit. The system is ideal for use by hospital Nuclear Medicine and PET facilities, including Iodine Therapy centres where the system could reduce hospitalisation time for patients undergoing Iodine therapy.
Katie McDonnell, LabLogic sales executive said "We have developed an excellent working relationship with Tracerco over the years' and are pleased to be able to collaborate on this project. Indeed, we hope that there will be further opportunities to introduce this innovative system to other UK hospitals."
Plug and play probes allow for simple installation, whilst the large, clear interface and sub menus make the device easy to set up and use. Observa™ gives live radiation dose rate readings from multiple detectors simultaneously, making it the perfect system for use in larger sites.
Observa™ is also available with unique software; the email and SMS alarm updates allow the user to have complete control over radiation safety and monitor an area remotely, which in a nuclear medicine environment reduces the burden on medical staff. Site floor plans can be uploaded into the embedded software module, complete with drag and drop detector positioning. Hence, it can be personalised to suit the user's needs.
The device can also be supplied with Observa™ 24/7, a 24 hour monitoring system which ensures that any alarm communication and data logging is secure 24/7 and not susceptible to the instability problems which can affect desktop computers. Observa™ also runs a back-up power supply, so monitoring remains constant even in the event of a power cut.
Tracerco senior commercial manager Graham Barker said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this order. Our key focus for our new Observa™ fixed area monitoring is to help our customers safely manage potential radiation risks in line with the ongoing regulatory drive for safer working practices.
Observa™ is the latest in a long line of innovative technologies from Tracerco. The award-winning company revolutionised radiation monitoring when it developed the first ever intrinsically safe contamination and radiation monitor, and most recently it extended its range of Personal Dosimeters.
