Siemens' Symbia Evo Excel
On Thursday, Siemens Healthcare introduced their Symbia Evo Excel SPECT system, the newest version of their Symbia E system. The company claims that its room size requirement is up to 29 percent smaller than the other systems in its class.

It's able to fit into an 11.8 foot by 15 foot room so hospitals can save money on room construction and system installation.

Its bore is 39.8 by 30.8 inches, which is 30 percent larger than other systems, and it can support patients who weigh up to 500 pounds. It's also accessible for patients with restricted mobility because the bed has a 21 inch minimum access.

For claustrophobic patients, Siemens shortened the tunnel length, and for tall patients they extended the maximum scan length to six feet, seven inches. The system uses a flexible detector which allows it to image critically ill patients on a hospital bed or gurney.

The system can be used in both hospitals and outpatient centers that have general nuclear medicine demands. The detector heads can be rotated into many different positions including caudal/cephalic tilt, which can support imaging configurations for general purpose, cardiology, oncology and neurological studies.

"Symbia Evo Excel addresses the pressing demands of today's health care environment as a cost-effective modernization option for nuclear medicine departments looking to avoid renovation of existing infrastructure," James Williams, CEO of Siemens Healthcare Molecular Imaging, said in a statement.
