DOTmed: Tell us about this purchase. Mercy Hospital El Reno has enhanced its imaging services with the acquisition of an MRI unit from a Mercy facility in Springfield, Missouri. And to operate it, the hospital has hired its first-ever MRI technician.
Previously, the El Reno hospital contracted with an outside vendor for MRI services. But when the Springfield hospital updated its MRI equipment, it transferred the old unit, with an expected three years of service life remaining, to El Reno.
The new equipment and technician allow the hospital to provide magnetic resonance imaging of the joints, abdomen, pelvis and brain.
DOTmed: Any final thoughts? The challenge, says Doug Danker, administrator at Mercy Hospital El Reno, is to increase volumes enough to justify replacing the MRI unit in three years.
