Planmed's cone beam CT scanner
received FDA clearance
A new CT scanner from Planmed that claims to use up to ten times less dose than regular CT scanners has now received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Planmed's Verity Mobile Extremity CT scanner, meant to be used before and after orthopedic surgery, is designed to catch subtle fractures that are commonly missed using 2-D X-rays, according to a company press release.

The scanner's new cone-beam technology uses a short X-ray pulse rather than continuous radiation, scanning images in less than twenty seconds while significantly reducing dose.
