A bill that would institute minimum federal standards for radiologic technologists and radiation therapy assistants taking part in Medicare was introduced into the House of Representatives last June. Now, a year later, a companion bill has made its way to the Senate.
The American Society of Radiologic Technologists, which supports the bill and has tried to get a version into Congress every session for the better part of a decade, said Tuesday that Sen. Tom Harkin, an Iowa Democrat, and Sen. Mike Enzi, a Wyoming Republican, introduced S.338, the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, or CARE bill, into the Senate.
Harkin and Enzi previously introduced an earlier CARE bill in August 2010, but Congress adjourned before it was ever acted on.

The House version of the current bill, H.R. 2104, currently has 125 cosponsors, ASRT said. It was also the subject of a
congressional hearing earlier this month.
