SonoSite Inc.'s new bedside ultrasound system has been cleared for sale by European Union regulatory authorities.
The Bothell, Wash.-based company said Wednesday it received CE marking for its Edge ultrasound system. The laptop-sized device had already received Food and Drug Administration clearance last month.
Edge, the company's fifth generation system, uses algorithms to reduce speckle noise and image artifacts, Sonosite said. Applications for the device include needle visualization for anesthesia, cardiology, emergency medicine and women's health.
