Are you voting for Donald or Hillary?

In the upcoming election, you only have three choices:
1. Not to vote
2. Vote for Donald
3. Vote for Hillary
If you do not vote for Donald or Hillary, in my opinion, you are throwing away your vote.
I agree with some Libertarian policies and some Green Party policies but I do not think now is the time to make a statement because I cannot remember a time, in my life, when two candidates have been so completely different.
There has always been the sense that Democrats want to raise taxes and provide more services and the Republican want to lower taxes and provide fewer services. But historically, I always had the feeling that one politician was not much different than another.
If you follow my scribblings, you know that I am cynical about politics. I am cynical about Congress and I feel that they care more about furthering their own agenda and feathering their own nests than they do than helping to make our country a better place.
Donald Trump has turned the political system on its ear but I am not sure that he is neutral. Honestly, I am not sure what Donald Trump's agenda is. I know that he wants to create change but I am not sure what he wants to change things to.
It is generally agreed that the Republican Convention painted a bleak picture of our country but I do not agree that the country is bleak.
The Democratic Convention seems to be painting a brighter view of the world. I heard someone say, "There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America." And I agree with that.
Some people say they do not trust Hillary but I am not sure I have the feeling that I trust Donald Trump either.
Men have run our country for 240 years. It would be interesting to see if a woman could do a better job. I know that Angela Merkel is doing a great job in Germany and God knows she has her share of challenges and Theresa May is now going to be challenged with pulling Britain out of the EU. Maybe the voters in the United States will decide it is time to give a woman a shot.
Whatever you think, if you vote, you will not have any regrets. At least you know you did not waste your vote so I encourage you to register, pick one of the two candidates you most agree with and vote for that person.

My next door neighbor is a police officer. While the vast majority of folks he encounters continue to be decent and respectful, he has shared some things with me that were a real eye opener. Ambushes and murder of our police officers have become mundane, it barely makes news when it occurs. Our country is more divided, and heading down the wrong path more than we could have ever imagined even 10 years ago.
In my opinion, it's not a matter of being "dark" or "bleak". I would characterize it as the reality of the world we live in today. One thing I know for sure, the first step to fixing any problem is admitting it exists. Painting a bright picture, and failing to acknowledge reality is in my view, denial. It might make some folks feel better, but it precludes any progress towards addressing and fixing our problems.
As for the candidates, I for one hope that Donald Trump is not "neutral". I hope he has convictions and opinions that do not change according to the present company to which he is speaking. He has said he signed up for this because he could no longer stand the direction his country was heading. I see no reason at this time not to take him at his word. Granted, he says and does things at times that can only make one wonder if he really wants the job. Rounding up every illegal alien and deporting them is ridiculous. On the other hand, opening our borders and letting everyone in who wants to come just because they will overwhelmingly vote for one party over the other is insanity.
As for Hillary, we know for a fact that she conducted government business on an illegal mail server, and repeatedly lied to Congress and the American public about it. We how know that the DNC rigged the primary, which she still almost managed to lose. When the DNC chairperson resigned in disgrace, she took her in immediately. Just this alone is something we could never have imagined a generation ago.
I would never vote for or against anyone based on their gender, or any other irrelevant criteria such as race, color, creed, or how they choose to worship if at all. I would submit that the "establishment" has indeed been in power for 240 years, and we are in debt $20 Trillion that they admit to, with the actual number being much higher. I for one am willing to give a "non-establishment" candidate a shot. This scares the establishment of both parties as they see that power to which they are so addicted slipping away from their grasp.
Unfortunately for us, Presidential elections often come down to selecting the lesser of 2 evils. For me, the choice is clear. If I have offended anyone with my opinions, please understand it was not my intent to offend. And as we all know, this concept of intent is why one of the candidates is still being allowed to participate at all.
