Presidential politics - candid or impolite?

According to the pollsters, Donald Trump is leading the pack of Republican presidential candidates. The pundits say it is because his rhetoric is the way most people feel.
I cannot help but think that most people would reject his personal attacks. Frankly speaking, when I listen to him, it reminds me of the banter between Don Bogutski and myself but we do that in private. Our wives describe it as adolescent behavior and both of us are tame compared to Mr. Trump.
I imagine that if he saw this, he would call me a big loser so I hope he does not read it.
According to Sting, all of these politicians are like game show hosts. With all the problems we have in the world today and in our country, I do not know about you — but I am looking for a thoughtful and calm leader who can help us to navigate the many problems that we face now and will face in the future.
What do the rest of you think?

Phil wrote a good column. Is the Trump phenomena the fault of the candidates or us as American citizens or the media who report on the presidential campaign as if it were a horse race? Everything Trump says is reported as if it were important news. Last week President Obama held a very important press conference where he addressed the Iran agreement. Regardless of how you feel about the Iran agreement, it was an important press conference. The next day Trump had more ink than the president. The same for electronic media. Trump had more face time than the president.

I do not blame the press. I blame the voting public.
The press provides what the viewing public wants, what keeps the viewer from changing the channel and unfortunately, it is rancor, hate and rhetoric.
The turn out for the last Congressional election was a dismal 35% of eligible voters. We are lucky to have 50% in a Presidential election.
We as Americans rely much too much on political commentary and opinions from political entities on news channels for information on legislation. We rely on individuals who's job it is to spin information on legislation that shines a positive light on their party or a negative one on the opposing party.
We as Americans will spend hours on Facebook, playing on-line video games, hours waiting on a line for play off tickets or a movie premier but we as Americans spend very little to no time in reading actual legislation for ourselves that is before the Congress.
We have political commentators tell us what the legislation means, what to think.
As for Donald Trump being a good President, I doubt it.
There have been four President in American history who were business men and each and everyone of them are at the bottom of the list of the most effective Presidents. Our form of government is a Democratic Republic not Capitalism. It is a bureaucracy and not a business.
Politics 101, gather a group of people together, remind them of better times. How much things have changed. How we have to bring back our nation to its former glory and then you point the finger and say this is who you should blame for all of our nations problems, this is who blame for the changes and for the loss of glory.
Unfortunately, winning the American people's vote is like taking candy from a baby.
