I'm in Vienna this week attending the European Congress of Radiology's annual meeting. From what I've seen, the turnout is tremendous, the energy is high and unlike in recent years, people are very optimistic. It's a good sign.

The show began yesterday, but for DOTmed it's already been really busy. Mike Pringle, who's looking after DOTmed's affairs in the United Kingdom, joined me today and is complaining about not having a minute to sit down. And Ozana Wiener, who's running our booth, says more than 70 people stopped by today alone.

Of course, there are lots of new products on the floor. I stopped by Dell's booth, for instance, where they have an interesting data archiving solution, which I'll talk more about on Monday.

Himanshu Gupta (center) with EverX

But for me it has just been great to catch up with old friends. There was Himanshu Gupta, with EverX, a dealer of refurbished medical equipment based in Australia and Japan, who was enjoying his first ECR. Normally, Gupta only attends Arab Health and RSNA, but he wanted to see what ECR is all about, and he says he's glad he came. So am I.
Greg Kramer (left), of C&G Technologies

Then there was Greg Kramer, with C&G Technologies, who has a great booth location. When I came over, he was actually in the middle of doing a deal. As always, he was looking very stylish. So, might I add, was Florian Dickopp, the director of Medicopex (a company headquartered in nearby Germany).

I also got to chat with Bob Probst, with Technical Prospects. I think Bob and I are on a similar wavelength, as he told me he was enjoying having a chance to meet people he had previously only known through email. That's always an interesting experience. Maybe we're here primarily for the leads, but I find seeing new friends and old friends is often what it's all about.
