SNMMI, the World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS), and the American College of Radiology (ACR) are recommending that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reconsider the current restrictive coverage policy for NaF PET imaging to identify bone metastases, which can inform treatment strategy. The limited coverage policy became more restrictive on December 14, 2017, when CMS closed the National Oncologic PET Registry (NOPR).
NOPR has provided all the required evidence of the scan’s effectiveness and importance in day-to-day oncology practice, and it has requested that CMS reconsider National Coverage Determination (NCD) for NaF PET.
The SNMMI/WMIS/ACR letter to CMS supports the NOPR request.
