ATON GmbH, a German private investment group, said Tuesday its U.S. subsidiary bought mini C-arm-maker OrthoScan Inc, as part of its strategic commitment to medical technology. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
ATON also owns Ziehm Imaging Group, a manufacturer of mobile C-arms, which it acquired in 2004.
OrthoScan, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., makes imaging devices which help orthopedic surgeons in complex operations involving delicate body parts, such as wrists, knees and ankles, according to ATON. Its product line includes the OrthoScan HD with a flat detector, which it introduced in March 2010.

Ziehm Imaging said the two companies' products complement each other. Ziehm Imaging's targeted segments include cardiology, interventional radiology, neurology and urology, according to its website.
"We’re all very excited about the acquisition, being able to add this great product from OrthoScan to the rest of our portfolio," Gregory Jett, director of marketing for the Americas with Ziehm Imaging, told DOTmed News.
In a statement, Klaus Hoerndler, Ziehm Imaging's CEO, said "further synergies are created for our customers, now that the two companies are held under one roof.”
Ziehm Imaging, whose headquarters are in Nuremberg, was founded in 1972.
