Sutter Health has announced a $380 million investment to establish a new cancer center in Modesto, California.

The four-story, 165,000-square-foot facility will be located on the Sutter Memorial Medical Center campus and is expected to open in 2028 or 2029. This project, part of Sutter's broader strategy to improve healthcare access in the Central Valley, will bring together advanced cancer treatments and surgical services under one roof.

The cancer center, developed in collaboration with Gould Medical Group, will occupy the first two floors, offering a comprehensive range of services, including clinic visits, infusion and radiation therapy, imaging, and access to clinical trials. The center aims to serve patients from multiple counties, providing care closer to home while maintaining connections to specialized Sutter facilities in the Bay Area and Sacramento.

In addition to cancer care, the facility will include an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) on the third floor, featuring four operating rooms and future expansion capacity. The fourth floor will house outpatient clinics, increasing the availability of clinical services with 50 exam rooms and over 25 clinicians.

To support the center’s operations, Sutter plans to recruit 44 clinicians, alongside 12 more for outpatient services. The new center is a key part of Sutter's broader efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure across Northern California, which includes plans for new ambulatory care centers and increased hospital capacity.
