Oak Valley Health in Ontario has constructed the first interventional radiology suite in Canada to come equipped with a GE Allia IGS 7 System.
With highly advanced imaging guidance, the solution will enable interventional radiologists to diagnose and treat complex and intricate diseases with minimally invasive procedures. It is equipped with a laser-guided mobile robotic gantry for precisely positioning patients, is ergonomic and can be personalized for the physician’s clinical needs, even in the most complex working positions. Personalizing procedures make the system easy-to-use.
The IR suite is 2,465 square-feet and also has an ultraviolet sterilization system and the first UV Room Disinfector in Ontario. The expansion of the IR suite was made possible through funding by the Miller family and the work of the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation.
The solution will be available at the healthcare system’s two hospitals, Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) and Uxbridge Hospital (UXB). “This investment toward a new facility and cutting-edge technology will allow Oak Valley Health to serve 60% more diagnostic imaging patients each year, reducing patient wait times and alleviating the burden on our hardworking healthcare professionals,” said Paul Calandra, MPP for Markham-Stouffville, in a statement.
The solution is powered by GE Healthcare's Edison Intelligence platform, which enables hospitals and healthcare systems to host and deploy clinical, workflow, analytics and AI apps into their workflow. The Allia IGS 7 System also comes with the first AI-driven imaging chain for reducing radiation dose and contrast for interventional procedures.
The ultraviolet light sterilization system was installed in the ductwork, along with stringent air filtration systems in modern hospitals. The UV Room Disinfector is mounted to the ceiling and uses smart sensors to disinfect the room after each use. This helps reduce the spread of hospital-acquired infections when conducting invasive procedures, according to the hospital.
Heather Chalmers, president and CEO of GE Canada, says the Allia IGS 7 System will help Oak Valley Health and other hospitals address their backlog of non-urgent patients faster, and better equip them to address the growth in diseases. “Ultimately, this will enable the team at Oak Valley Health to increase patient access and surgical capacity for the York, Durham regions.”
