GE Logiq 500 - HDD or Timekeeper?

September 10, 2007 04:37

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem with one of our equipment that became very hard to solve.
We recently replace a defective 2.5' HDD to a new 3.5'one, but when we start the system it loads only two bars and then hangs still for hours. It gets stuck and never shows any other message.

The battery was checked and has 2.8V on it (Same of its datasheet).

I'm suspecting of the timekeeper ram. We test is and it seems to be good, but I think that we lost its data. If we lost it, would we need to re-program it? Would anyone know you it is done?

The HDD is brand new, and I don’t want to believe that the problem lies on it...

Please let me know if you can help at this time.

Thank you very much,

Thomas Gomes

Hello There !

I would like to ask you if you have service manual for HDD replacement.
There is a special procedure for HDD replacement.
You need also all the FMI instruction for that.
First, you will need to have a "initialized HDD" from GE .If you replace the HDD with a brand New drive you should format this drive as in service procedure, you should have a MOD software version 3.3 or more and patch MOD to complete instalation of software.
Than you need the current service password for setting options.
2 How you check the baterry of time keeper ?
Do you detache the batery from the ram ?
In this case , you should reinitialize NVRAM from address 0.
Is in manual a line comand to complete NVRAM initialization.
If you have more question, contact me.
Good Luck !

Dear Anghel,

I do have the service manual for the HDD replacement. But I don't know what you mean about FMI instructions.

The HDD I've got already has the 3.30 software version installed.

I don't have the service password.

We took the battery out of the circuit board to check it. This battery was not attached on the ram.

There are no instructions about NVram initialization in my service manual. How is it done?

We are very lost now and don’t have any clue on how to solve it… We were thinking on replacing the ram. Would this help?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Regards,

Thomas Gomes

Re: GE Logiq 500 - HDD or Timekeeper?

September 11, 2007 03:38

Dear Florin,

We have this GE Logic 500 MD system, Model: 2164533, Software version 3.30, that was not load completely and displayed “SCSI ERROR”. We would unplug and plug again the HDD and then it would load completely. The equipment worked this way for a couple of months until one day unplug/plug would not work anymore.

We thought it was the HDD, so we bought a brand new 3.5' Quantum fireball LCT20 part number SG-055XUC-12547-13J-302N with the software version 3.30 installed, replacing the defective Fujitsu 240MB 2.5' – Model M2637SA, Part Number: CA01154-AB012.5' HDD. After the HDD installation, when we started the system, it loaded only two bars and then hanged still for hours. It gets stuck and never shows any other message, but the software loading screen.

We went over the service manual hundred of times to check if anything was out of place or wrong, and nothing. Everything just the same… Exactly as the manual says!

So we started to check other things on the system. We took the battery and the ram off the circuit board, tested them and they seem to be fine.

We are lost now, and some colleagues told us that we could not have taken the battery off the system, and we might have lost some important configuration of it that is extremely hard to put back again.

This is what happen… Do you know what the problem could be? We have a Logiq 400 that we can take some parts for testing, but it also have a bad HDD.

Thank you very much for your attention!

Best regards,

Thomas Gomes

Thomas:

Recently time back I had a similar problem with logiq 500; watch according to the learned thing, but probable that its new hdd is not recognized by the card CPU, first left hand; review its manual and tells that according to the model of hhd it is the CPU model.

A consultation, that software version you have in the equipment before changing the hard disk?

I clarify to him that when fails the Time to keeper, first that is lost it is the date and the hour, now reason why you inform but the probable thing that you have mutual incompatibility between the new hard disk and the version of the CPU.

Verify and luck

Dear Manuel,

The system is a GE Logic 500 MD, Model: 2164533, Software version 3.30. The previous Hard Drive was the Fujitsu 240MB 2.5' - Model M2637SA, Part Number: CA01154-AB01;

The current HD is a quantum fireball LCT20 part number SG-055XUC-12547-13J-302N it has s 3.30 software version label on it.

I hope that it is just a configuration problem because we are already late about the delivery time of this equipment.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I'm repairing a logic 500 which gives me start CPU MEMORY TEST: SUCCESS and stop. I tried replacing the battery timeeeper which measured 0.5 V instead of 2.8V but also replaced does not change anything. I can not enter setup or in any other way. What could it be? Corrupted HDD?

You replaced the battery, but the BBRAM (Battery Backup RAM) is still in a wrong state, you need to restore the neccesary information in order to run the software.
Where are you from?

Hello guys,

I'm repairing a GE LOGIQ 500. I replaced the battery timekeeper on CPU, was discharged 0.5V instead of 3.3 V but will not start the SW and the system loads only two color bars(LOGIQ 500 start up logo). Only writes: CPU MEMORY TEST: SUCCESS and stop 2135131-10.
I did connect to the unit GE LOGIQ 500 via HyperTerminal program, and I have got this page on my screen.

*** VENUS SYSTEM RESET / START ***
BBRAM contents are corrupted *** ***
VTSH>
VTSH> *** VENUS SYSTEM READY ***
PWRD: rt_reqprdmsg error [1100th]

Would you please guide me, what is the next step to resolve the boot problem for the device?
What can be? Thanks in advance

Also I am in need of a GE LOGIQ 500 service manual with part number: P9030TB, if you have it would you please send me by e-mail

I'm having a similar problem with a logic pro 400. I replaced the timekeeper battery and now I have to type in the system id each time at the 3rd bar of the startup. None of the date functions work because the date is no longer stored in the RAM. I have the information about how to fix this, but am having difficulty connecting another computer to the machine by hyperterminal. I'm using a null modem cable, but don't get any response from the logic 400. Can you help me with this issue with hyperterminal (connecting by 25 pin connector to another tower computer) and I could send you the directions on how to enter the information to restore the date info. bgollub@pol.net

Hello Bruce Gollub,

We can also repair your Logiq 400 Pro, if you could send me a little reward?
We follow step by step.
1- You have replaced the battery timekeeper? It's was discharged.
2- when you write it the LOGIQ 400 MEMORY TESTS: SUCCESS and stop?
3- you need a PC to be connected to LOGIC 400 Pro via cable and connector COM to port Service of Logiq 400 Pro.
4- You build a cable see page 6-235 of the Service Manual of Logiq 500 service manual. Set bit rate as par 6-4-2 on HyperTerminal program.

Do you know HYPERTERMINAL connection?

When LOGIQ start on the screen of the laptop connected to it writes:

*** VENUS SYSTEM RESET / START ***
BBRAM contents are corrupted *** ***
VTSH>
VTSH> *** VENUS SYSTEM READY ***
PWRD: rt_reqprdmsg error [1100th]

You write me if you've gotten to this step.

Best regards

Saman

After replacing a time keeper battery with new one, it is necessary to install the system ID number into
the time keeper RAM and to set up the factory preset data.
The system software version 2.00 or later console can be installed the system ID number into new
time keeper RAM using the utility function. Refer to Section 4–3–3 (J) on page 4–31, SYSTEM ID
ENTRY/DISPLAY in Chapter 4 of this manual.
For the procedure of installing system ID number into the system software version 1.20 or former console,
refer to LOGIQ? 500 Proprietary Manual, P9030TB.
