Agfa CR 75.0 Digitizer will not enter self-test upon startup

September 10, 2021 10:52

I am powering up the digitizer without the workstation connected and when the unit starts the red LED flashes continuously and the display only a blinking cursor. The service manual says that the digitizer is supposed to enter a self-test upon startup and report that the unit is ready, or the self-test has failed. Does anyone have any ideas or experience on why the unit will not enter test mode?

I would monitor the boot process but utilizing putty or hyperterm, you will need a d9 to d25 serial cable. This has to be a straight cable and not a modem cable.
You will want to launch hyperterm or putty, with the lights turned way down to minimize additional light to the PMT start the digitizer. Monitor your terminal emulation and watch the boot process. If it fails at a certain point it will give you an idea on where your problem might be.
So when you get the self test failed, do you get an error code with the self test error?
Can you log into the digitizer using a web browser and look at the info counter?

I've had problems with the cpu failing a program startup. Sometimes reinstalling the software will fix the problem. Not knowing what version you have I would recommend updating to the latest version which I should have. Depending on your cpu, US versions utilized 3.5" diskettes to load the software, EU versions utilized USB to install software.
I believe the latest version is 5206 which I have.

The other problem area is power supply, I've had a couple over the years that failed causing startup problems.
The least problem area has been hard drive, early units utilized scsi drives. They've always been reliable, then they changed to ide which caused some problems after about 5-7 years. Replacing the drive and reinstalling the software takes care of drive problems.

But rather than start throwing parts at it, watching the boot process is the best.
Software reinstalls are the next step.
If you have stepper card errors the system will normally tell you what node had the error.

I can get you a copy of the service manual to further assist you.

May be a HDD file corrupt.
Did you try to enter the operating system through the serial port and see the loading status of the system?
There are file system repair instructions
Otherwise you will have to perform a soft reinstallation
