M K Alexander Dakota Medical

July 20, 2007 12:46

MK Alexander owes me several thousand dollars for the purchase of my ophthalmic equipment from nearly a year & a half ago. He is a chronic swindler for decades across the country. I received today a bulk mailing (postcard) from Dakota Medical out of a P.O. Box in Riviera Beach Fl. The contact person was Ken. I called the # & MK answered! I confronted him concerning his name, company name and the $ he owed me. His dispute only concerns the amount. By any means do not deal with his person. Take cash only with a pen to check for counterfeit status (available at Office Max)

What was the bulk mailing about? Was it a DR system? I would like to know if this is connected to another scam around Florida.

I have dealt with MK for years, and sold him tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

Unfortunately, I sent him a Retinal Camera recently and his check bounced. I called him and he said it was a bank mistake, and to re-submit the check. The check bounced again. Now he won't answer emails or phone calls. The name of the business on the check is Shurway Medical at 1372 N Killian Dr., Suite F, West Palm Beach FL, and he possibly also does business as Lincoln Medical. Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss this.

This is a follow-up regarding the bounced check from MK Alexander. MK sent me a replacement check, which has cleared the bank. He has paid me for this item in full, and he was very apologetic about the delay. You may email me for verification if you like.

MK took possession of ophthalmic equipment from my office on September 8,2008, ($33,300) worth and to date 3-4-09 has not made any contact to pay me for it. I may have to resort to legal action to get him to pay. I would be happy to discuss the circunstances surrounding his failure to make payment to me. It would appear he is following in the payment scheme of Mr. Madoff possibly. Dr. David Allara

Good luck prosecuting him. The 1 thing that got me some additional $ was to threaten to report him tothe Ophthalmology Times for his ad under Southport Ophthalmic ( his old high school in Indiana).
This is the only threat he has responded to. I got nowhere with the Fl. Attorney General.

This is a followup on mr. M K Alexander. I had given him 33,300 worth of my equipment to sale and pay me for down the line. He has signed a prommisory note and has made some payments, albeit late based on the note, but he has paid off about 25% of the total price. He will be paying the amoritized amount on the promissory note when the end finally comes. He insists that he is "working on" paying the rest off as soon as he can. It will be 1 year from the date of his truck driver picking the equipment up in Sept of 2008 soon.

After the posting on MK Alexander, he contacted me and showed up with the OCT and interest in the form of extra equipment for the long wait. Since then I have purchased 3 slit lamps from him. He is a little slow in getting equipment to me but you can not beat the price and quality!
DOTmed is a great service and people read it !

Got you reply, Frank. My attorney friend does alot of work in this field and we can get a legitimate juidgement through a rather complex triple sealed judge directed suit. It's complex but it works according to my lawyer, even though i am from WV and he is in florida. I have actually stayed at his home for 2 nights while observing Dr. T. O'Brien at Bascom Palmar Eye Institute do Lasik. He was very nice but I did not do my due deligence in evaluating him but I had legal issues requiring me to sell the equipment as quickly as possible.But.......... 6 months I have not received anything from him but he, I'm sure of, has gotten his money off the top of selling my equipment. I will update as things progress. R. David Allara, M.D.

This is a follow up on Mr. Alexander inregard to my situation: He did finally answer my lawyer's call and has agreed in principle to sign a promissory note to begin, after over 6 months without any attempt to pay or make payment on my equipment, to make bi-weekly payments at 6% interest until the final amount is paid off. That is a great legal position for us and it is ashame that this had to result in the manner of his agreement to begin making payments. After all I had to complete some federal legal time for 5 months and he used that time to completely ignore his responsibility to pay for the equipment that he took from me in September 2008. He showed no remorse to me when we did speak to me to tell me that he wasn't going to "screw me". BlahBlah I advise anyone who deals with him to get a signed agreement in place before dealing with him! Dr. Dave Allara

This person calls himself Ken Alen I believe. His AOL email acct says MK though. He operates as Used Optical Equipment Inc as well as Lincoln medical, Dakota Medical, Southport Ophthalmic etc. He sells things on ebay via name faxfacts which showed listings from Lincoln medical and Used optical equipment inc. He has taken $5000 from me and hasn't delivered. He has stopped answering his phone calls or emails as well. Besides reporting to the FBI, any other steps I can take?

A follow-up: I have gotten in contact with Mr Alen. He has assured me that I will receive the equipment I ordered through him next week. Until a few days ago, he had been very good about returning calls and emails. The difficulty reaching him was because he had apparently lost his phone and this being Thanksgiving and all. That is understandable. In talking with him he addressed my concerns and the cases regarding previous posts in this thread to my satisfaction. I will re-update when I get the equipment. I'm sincerely hoping that this was a big misunderstanding and delay due to unforeseen circumstances.

This is the final follow-up. Mr Alen or MK has kept his word and delivered a high quality slit lamp at a great price. The completely understandable delay was due to Hurricane Sandy, the holidays, and loss of a phone at an inopportune time. He has subsequently been in touch with me regularly and I would have no hesitation in doing business with him again given this experience and the fact that he has a stellar reputation on ebay over many years. All in all, it was a simple misunderstanding.

Wish I had seen this site prior to sending K Alexander a $19,000 deposit on a SLT laser I never received. I had ordered ophth. equipment from him over many years without problems. He is a real con-man. He sent me a picture of the SLT laser I was to receive and even had Fed Ex come by and pick up the deposit check. He had a million different stories of why he did not deliver the laser, and now he does not answer mine or my attorney"s phone calls. I have filed suit and he has been served in FL. We have reported him to the AAO and ASCRS to try and warn other ophthalmologists. We will be contacting the local DA and the FBI in the near future as well as the "throw away journals" to warn ophthalmologists to not do business with this man. He travels in a RV to avoid being caught. If anyone has a home address please let me know.

Mr. Alexander first contacted me ~14 years ago when I first started my practice. During that time I helped him to sell equipment to colleagues, made trips to pick up equipment for his buisness, helped him with business deals, and examined his eyes and provided him with eyewear. In the long run what did I get?-a $>$50,000 debt to which he just vanished and has made no effort to contact me and has made it impossible for me to contact him. Please be aware that during that time I was given bad checks, various stories about why equipment wasn't delivered, on & on. He knows a lot of people in the industry and his reputation proceeds him. If you are considering doing business with him you are forewarned. If there is anyone out there like myself trying to contact him let me know if you have any success and/or can share that information with me.
