Philips Hybrid OR solution with its Azurion image-guided therapy system.
MarinHealth Medical Center, a 327-bed hospital in Marin, California, has installed Philips' Azurion 7 C20 with FlexArm Imaging-guided Therapy System within its new hybrid OR suite, the only one in Marin County, to facilitate real-time image guidance for providers and clinical staff performing complex cardiovascular and vascular procedures.
The entire installation cost $11 million and will allow interventional specialists and surgeons at the facility’s Haynes Cardiovascular Institute to be able to address multiple issues in one operation, reducing the need for additional procedures and shortening hospital visits and stays, while speeding up recovery and improving outcomes.
Among the procedures that can be performed there are transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR), electrophysiology, vascular procedures, and cardiac catheterization.
"This new Hybrid OR enables our clinical teams to perform minimally invasive heart and vascular surgeries in the same session. This reduces the procedure time and helps to improve the efficiency of the operating room team," MarinHealth Medical Center told HCB News.
Health care architecture firm KMD Architects and general contractor Herrero Brothers converted an existing clinical area to make the suite. The design allows physicians to transition from performing an interventional catheter-based procedure to a surgical one without transporting the patient to another setting, which is what eliminates the need to perform multiple procedures in different sessions.
Philips' Azurion 7 C20 with FlexArm Imaging-guided Therapy System provides unlimited imaging flexibility as a ceiling-mounted system. The FlexArm C-arm can provide off-center imaging along both sides of the table, allowing physicians to perform radial or brachial access cases on the left or right arm, fully or partially extended, without moving the patient or table.
It facilitates 2D and 3D imaging, with the image beam remaining aligned with the patient, allowing for better visualization of anatomies during rotations or angulations.
The single touch screen Azurion intuitive user interface also provides greater control at the table side, including with its intuitive Axsys controller to make procedures flow naturally and easily. This also reduces the need for physicians and other staff members to move in and out of the sterile field during procedures.
Donors of the Haynes Cardiovascular Institute raised $5.2 million to help MarinHealth afford the hybrid OR solution.
