Over the next 10 years, Siemens Healthineers will train medical staff at SSM Health in the Midwest on best practices in diagnostic imaging and supply it with up-to-date radiology technologies and software, in what is its largest geographic strategic partnership to date.

A Catholic not-for-profit, SSM Health is made up of 40,000 team members and more than 12,800 providers at 23 hospitals, more than 300 physician offices, 13 post-acute facilities, and other outpatient and virtual care services in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. It also has home care and hospice services, a pharmacy benefit company, a health insurance company, and an accountable care organization, and is one of the largest employers in each community it serves.

Through their collaboration, the two partners plan to provide more equitable access to diagnostic imaging services and other forms of care for underserved and vulnerable patient populations. One way they are doing this is by investing in programs on early detection and management of chronic diseases in urban and rural settings that SSM Health serves.

Additionally, they will foster workforce growth, including for radiological technologists to combat the current shortage, by partnering with community organizations. The first will be the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, which will help create more employment opportunities and create mentorships for local youth through its Urban League’s Save Our Sons & Save Our Sisters initiative.

“At SSM Health, we are working to ensure all people have access to high-quality, compassionate, and affordable care, but we can’t do this alone. Siemens Healthineers shares our deep-rooted commitment to innovation, quality, and value,” said Jeremy Fotheringham, regional president of SSM Health, in a statement.

SSM Health will additionally adopt a tailored set of radiotherapy technologies from the Advanced Oncology Solutions portfolio for Varian, a Siemens Healthineers company, and use them to integrate oncology services to improve its utilization of diagnostic imaging technologies.

Siemens Healthineers will also provide it with smart building technology and energy management to decrease its carbon footprint.

“Our partnership with SSM Health will serve the local communities, taking into account the social and environmental determinants that influence patient health in support of long-term well-being,” said David Pacitti, president and head of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers.
