Siemens Healthineers is opening a new innovation center in Erlangen, Germany.
To foster greater collaborations with clinical and academic partners, companies, and startups focused on driving development of medical technology applications, Siemens Healthineers has opened a new innovation center in Erlangen, Germany.

The center will create an infrastructure for open collaboration in research, development, and production, and facilitate customer and market-oriented development. It will work with company centers in China and India designed for the same purpose to facilitate regional exchanges of values and innovations for health systems worldwide.

Several Siemens Healthineers teams will conduct their work at the center, including the ASOR (All Sorts of Reality) community, which creates strategies for developing and integrating extended reality applications in virtual and augmented reality within Siemens Healthineers’ business segments and product lines, as well as with its internal and external partner companies, and makes digital content more tangible.

Specifically, it will test and develop prototypes at the center for virtually simulating medical technology solutions and applications for training and other needs.

"The goal is to jointly focus on new technologies and value-added processes that have the potential to disrupt the healthcare system for the benefit of patients,” said Peter Schardt, chief technology officer of Siemens Healthineers, in a statement.

The center will also be the meeting grounds for alliances, such as the digital health innovation platform d.hip, which is made up of industry, university medicine, and research organizations working together to accelerate the digitization of the healthcare system.

Erlangen is the site of the company’s corporate headquarters and its recently opened €60 million ($65 million) education and development center for training and integrated degree programs. Siemens Healthineers spent about €1.8 billion (over $2 billion) in research and development in 2022.
