As part of a partnership with McLaren Greater Lansing, part of McLaren Health Care, MSU Health Care, in Michigan, is transferring its medical imaging services from the Clinical Center in East Lansing to the new MSU Health Care at McLaren Greater Lansing Outpatient Imaging Center, which, at 22,632 square feet, is the largest imaging facility in mid-Michigan.

Located in the $25 million Izzo Family Medical Center, on the McLaren Greater Lansing Health Care Campus within the University Health Park, the center will house four wide-bore MR scanners, and digital PET and CT systems that cut down on exam time and improve patient experiences, which will be used to diagnose conditions such as cancer and stroke.

The center will also provide low-dose CT scans to mitigate radiation exposure, as well as updated general X-ray, fluoroscopy, bone density, and ultrasound exams.

It will open its doors to patients on June 26.

"Previously, these services were offered in the hospital and in a medical services building on separate floors, necessitating patients with multiple exams to have to go to multiple areas. We’re now in a position to coordinate their care more efficiently and streamline the process, saving the patients time and allowing our team to see more patients," Colleen Hoffman, radiology administer for MSU Health Care, told HCB News.

The center will incorporate Siemens Healthineers' technology, including wide-bore 1.5T and 3.0T MR scanners, a Sequoia ultrasound unit, a 128-slice CT system, a Luminos dRF max fluroscopy unit, Multix Impact C X-ray units, PET scanners, and Deep Resolve AI software. It will also have GE Logiq E9 ultrasound units and a Hologic Horizon-A bone densitometry system.

"With having shorter scan times and all wide-bore magnets for better patient comfort, we project an increase of at least 25% of our volume due to this investment, meeting a growing demand in our community," said Hoffman.

Construction began in 2021 on the center, which will employ staff from McLaren Greater Lansing, MSU Healthcare, and Corewell Health’s Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, and work in conjunction with MSU's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams.

The center will offer extended hours and weekend appointments.
