Spectrum Dynamics Medical and Kromek Group have launched the first digital SPECT/CT scanner capable of high-energy imaging.
Equipped with Kromek's cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detectors to boost sensitivity and throughput, the VERITON-CT 400 Series increases the energy range up to 400keV high-energy isotopes to support throughput for current and up-and-coming advanced nuclear medicine clinical applications.
With two- to four-times more sensitivity and higher energy resolution, the solution can complete scans in shorter times than analog and current digital technologies, and with lower radiation exposure and greater quantitative accuracy.

A phase I study in 2016
found that cadmium zinc telluride (CZT)-based digital SPECT provides better image resolution and contrast than traditional analog SPECT scans. Sharpness and contrast were further increased when the digital detectors were focused on specific regions for multiple angular views.
The VERITON-CT 400 Series has a 360 degree gantry with 12 swiveling CZT detectors. During the scan, the detectors automatically follow the patient’s body contour, increasing volumetric sensitivity three times for routine 3D hybrid imaging without making the patient uncomfortable or interfering with workflow.
The scanner comes in 16-slice and 64-slice CT configurations that enable localization and attenuation correction for accurate quantification.
“In our nuclear medicine community, the main challenge now is to personalize and adapt targeted treatments to each individual. This requires precise determination of the distribution of delivered doses within the body. The scanner has the potential to do so with high quantitative accuracy and fast scan times to be used for a routine application”, said professor Pierre-Yves Marie, head of the department of nuclear medicine at University Hospital of Nancy in France.
Spectrum
launched its multipurpose VERITON and the VERITON-CT SPECT/CT, the first ring-based 360 CZT digital SPECT/CT scanner, in 2018. It previously introduced the first digital cardiac dedicated SPECT system, the D-SPECT CARDIO, in 2007.
Based in County Durham, U.K., Kromek provides OEM customers with detector components from its core CZT platform for better detection of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
