A U.S.-based startup has launched a solution that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help clinicians translate radiology reports into language that's easier for patients to understand.

The product, called Ezra Reporter, is designed to ease the burden on medical professionals by reducing the time it takes them to review the reports, leading to time and cost savings for providers. It works with full-body MR scans for cancer screening, which the company, Ezra, recently launched across 16 imaging facilities in four cities, with a nationwide expansion planned for next year.

Ezra Reporter processes and analyzes the radiology report and uses more than 1,000 points of clinical data from Ezra's existing internal medical provider team to generate a new medical report, which translates specific findings into non-technical terms. This report is then reviewed and verified by the clinician.

The company says the product will enable it to decrease the scan-to-report wait times from seven to three business days.

"Cancer's greatest weakness is early detection and with Ezra Reporter, our patients are well-informed and have a greater understanding about the status of their health, thus increasing their proactivity about follow-up care," Emi Gal, Ezra's co-founder and chief executive officer, told HCB News. "Additionally, the Ezra Reporter's timely translational capabilities will also enable patients to make necessary lifestyle adjustments, resulting in improved patient outcomes across the board."

Ezra's full-body scans are being deployed by more than 100 physicians, primarily those focused on longevity and anti-aging.

"The Ezra Report provides a great synopsis for my patients to easily digest their scan results, fostering an easier conversation around their treatment plan," Dr. Jake Deutsch, a New York physician and founder of the Oakwood Precision Medicine practice, said in a statement. "The quick turnaround time, coupled with the simplicity of the report, helps my patients to feel proactive about their long-term health goals at Oakwood."
