Fujifilm Medical Systems USA and Epsilon Imaging are pooling their technologies together to enhance and standardize echocardiographic interpretation and reporting.

The two are aiming to equip users of the Fujifilm’s Synapse Cardiology PACS with a greater set of tools for patient management by integrating it with the analysis and monitoring capabilities found in Epsilon Imaging’s vendor-neutral EchoInsight platform.

“With the integration of EchoInsight into the Synapse Cardiology PACS, we improve the acquisition of clinical strain imaging, automation of cardiac function measurements and monitoring capabilities for specific chambers, and enable the analysis of the entire heart,” Tim Thomas, vice president of cardiology at Fujifilm Medical Systems, told HCB news. “This will lead to improved confidence in assessment and monitoring of cardiac conditions, with a goal of improving patient outcomes.”

Utilizing server-side rendering with a zero footprint platform, Synapse Cardiology PACS enables users to access large datasets within popular browsers while using less bandwidth throughout the enterprise. Its use can be employed in a variety of areas, including adult echocardiography, pediatric/fetal echocardiography, ECG Management, noninvasive vascular, nuclear cardiology, cardiac catheterization, invasive peripheral vascular (IPV), electrophysiology (EP), cardiac CT and cardiac MR.

EchoInsight employs tools such as strain imaging and analysis of cardiac tissue motion and contraction to provide quantitative analyses to assist in making echocardiographic diagnoses and manage a range of indications across echocardiography programs.

Through the integration, Epsilon Imaging’s technology provides users of the Synapse Cardiology PACS with real-time clinical applications, including EchoInsight Left Ventricle for global and regional wall and chamber function analysis; EchoInsight Left Ventricle Contrast for global longitudinal strain imaging; EchoInsight Right Ventricle for RV free wall, regional wall and chamber function analysis; EchoInsight Stress Echo for rest-stress study comparison as well as global, regional wall and chamber function analysis; and EchoInsight Full Heart for simultaneous analysis of up to all four-chambers including LV & RV applications, and new atrial applications.

“Until now, strain imaging has been research-oriented, cumbersome to use and is usually vendor specific. It is increasingly being recommended to assist in assessing patients at risk or with heart failure, and can provide valuable, more sensitive information such as when monitoring patients for cardiotoxicity resulting from therapies used to treat cancer,” Eric Sieczka, president and CEO of Epsilon Imaging, told HCB News. “To make implementation of strain imaging and automated quantification practical to clinical workflow, it is critical for tools like these to be tightly integrated into the reading, reporting and management of patient studies.”

As part of their partnership, Fujifilm will act as a reseller of EchoInsight for Epsilon Imaging and provide product quotes to customers directly.

It will showcase the integration this month at the American College of Cardiology's (ACC) 68th Annual Scientific Session and Expo in New Orleans.
