Kamala Harris: Medicare for all

by Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | January 30, 2019
Many Democrats, feeling empowered by the mid-term elections and the government shutdown, are starting to come out of the woodwork to announce their candidacy for President of the United States.

You may have noticed that Kamala Harris is making the case for Medicare for all and doing away with private healthcare.

If I understand this correctly, this would really disrupt the current landscape.

I believe that hospitals, insurance companies, drug companies and a lot of politicians, would be very against this.

Some would say we have little or no competition now, but for sure, if there was a single payer Medicare for all insurance program, the insured would have no choice.

Harris is not the only person promoting Medicare for all. Bernie Sanders also proposed this and both Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand and other Democrats running for president have suggested the same sort of thing, but with a slightly different system of phasing in the new program over time.

Honestly, I am not sure who to trust and I am sure it is a problem. I am not sure I trust the drug companies, the insurance companies or for that matter, politicians.

medicare for all...

as the democratic party shifts from stealth mode to in-your-face socialism, ask the folks in places like Cuba and Venezuela how that socialism thing has worked out for them. The fallacy that centralized control of everything via government will protect us from evil big-business overlooks two critical elements. First, human nature is human nature. Electing someone to a political position does nothing to perfect the moral fallibility of men and women. People who are corrupted by power will be corrupt, whether in private industry or government. Second (real shocker here...), the government IS BIG BUSINESS. It is in fact the biggest of businesses. Let that sink in. So for those who are terrified that "Big Business" cannot be trusted, that it will act in its own interests first and will sacrifice principle for profit- all those things are also true for government when corrupt, power-mongering individuals are at the helm. But we will vote better people in, won't we?? Well then, explain how we voted in Obama or Trump or Pelosi, et al. I feel safer pitting the avarice of businesses in the free market (tempered by some minimal regulation from government) against one another to deliver most of the goods/services needed by the public.
